【ストーリー/Story】
浪人の中山安兵衛(勝新太郎)は叔父の助勢に高田馬場へ駆けつける途中、
旗本の丹下典膳(市川雷蔵)と知り合い、彼の助言によって決闘の
相手を打ち倒す。
しかし典膳は同門の知心流の加勢をしなかったことを非難されて道場を破門になり、安兵衛もまた堀内流を破門される。
運命のいたずらか、ともに上杉家江戸家老の名代の妹・千春へ想いを寄せる二人は偶然に翻弄され、流転の運命を辿る―。
On his way to Takadanobaba to help his uncle, Nakayama Yasube (Katsu Shintaro), a ronin, meets Tange Kenzen (Ichikawa Raizo), a Hatamoto, and on his advice defeats his opponent in a duel.
However, Norizen is accused of not joining his fellow Chishin-ryu fighter and is excommunicated from the dojo, while Yasube is also excommunicated from the Horiuchi school.
As fate would have it, the two, who both have feelings for Chiharu, the younger sister of the feudal lord Uesugi, are tossed about by coincidence, and their destinies take a turn for the worse.
